The Long Eaton & District Talking Newspaper (LETN) has been operating for 43 years and has close to 150 listeners within their geographical area that covers Eastwood in the North, to Castle Donington in the South, Beeston in the East to Borrowash in the West and beyond.

Every three weeks, LETN listeners, (who find reading difficult, if not impossible), receive a memory stick with not only 3 hours of local news stories and articles but also 37 hours of 13 magazines, (such as Woman’s Weekly, Woman’s Realm, Sage, Peoples Friend, Gardeners World, Derbyshire Life, Which and so on).

This means LETN listeners receive 40 hours of listening pleasure every three weeks, that they listen to on the free Memory Stick Player they are given when they become a listener.

The LETN has listeners, not only in their geographical area, but also around the world, thanks to their web site www.longeatontn.org.uk that always carries their recordings, as does the Bumblebee App, (product of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund) and also on ALEXA.

The LETN Readers Team consists of 30 volunteers, operating from their homes.
1. The LETN believes it is important to keep in touch with all its listeners. which is why there they are looking for telephone contact volunteers, who will each phone 20 listeners per month to ask:

  • if the memory stick players and memory sticks are operating ok.
  • how they are; and
  • what they think of the LETN service and carry out a brief survey of the memory stick content of stories & magazine.

2. The LETN receives referrals from a variety of sources but plans to reach out to doctors surgeries and opticians to offer posters advertising their free service.

This means the LETN are looking for volunteers who live within their geographical area covering Eastwood in the North, to Castle Donington in the South, Beeston in the East to Borrowash in the West to visit Surgeries and Opticians, to offer these posters
