Four people have been hospitalised after a collision between three vehicles in Borrowash on Wednesday morning (10th April), resulting in a response from three emergency services including an air ambulance.
Derbyshire Police reported receiving a call at around 9:15am to attend the scene on the A6005 near the junctions with Gordon Road and Chapel Row. Images released locally showed two extensively damaged vehicles had come to rest together on the side of the Derby bound carriageway near the wall of a house, whilst another was shown facing the wrong direction on the opposite carriageway outside local shops, and with debris strewn across the road.
An air ambulance landed on an area of green space near to the Ashbrook Centre on the main estate but took off again soon afterwards.
Nottingham Road was instantly closed and remained so for around six hours between Station Road and Barrons Way for investigation work to be carried out. Diversions were put into place to ease local traffic issues and local buses were diverted on to the A52 and away from the village which was closed at various locations including at the bottom of Victoria Avenue and the top of Station Road.
Police officers appealed for people to stay away from the area due to the nature of the incident. An extensive Police presence was deployed to the scene.
Erewash Sound has been informed that the incident may have occurred after a vehicle entering the village from Spondon at speed, hit bollards before spinning out of control but this has NOT been confirmed.
A statement released later by Derbyshire Police said that four people had been sent to hospital, with two of them having been "seriously injured". No further information has been released regarding the cause of the accident.
