Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster met neighbourhood police officers and fire chiefs in a visit to one of Derbyshire's joint blue light bases.
The Commissioner visited Long Eaton Fire Station in Tamworth Road, to find out how police officers and fire fighters are utilising the space as part of the ongoing partnership approach to community safety.
Co-location delivers value for money for the public and ensures the two organisations can build on each other's strengths and share information and expertise more easily for the benefit of local people's safety.
The project is part of an ongoing strategy across Derbyshire to increase opportunities for collaboration between the two organisations and make the county safer.
During the visit, she met Sgt Sarah Carlile and other members of the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team alongside Station Manager Simon Abbs.
Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster said: "Shared bases make financial and operational sense and will help both organisations continue to deliver the best performance and service to our communities.
"This project will ensure policing remains at the very heart of the community and that our hard-working officers are accessible to the public when they are needed.
"Both organisations already work together on joint operations and it makes sense to remove the physical distance between each service to support this shared way of working.
"Both teams are already reaping the rewards of the new partnership and the project is an excellent example of the progress that can be achieved by continually exploring more effective and efficient ways of working to maximise public funds and safety."
ACC Michelle Shooter added: "The joint blue light base at Long Eaton is just one of many examples across the county where we are successfully collaborating with our colleagues at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, allowing both services to remain at the heart of the community while providing value for money. We continue to seek opportunities with our partners to provide a localised footprint in our communities."
Derbyshire's Deputy Chief Fire Officer Rob Taylor said: "Recognising the benefits of closer blue light working through shared buildings, Long Eaton Fire Station was one of our first collaborative fire stations. Back in December 2014 we welcomed East Midlands Ambulance Service to the station where our police partners now join us.
"By collocating we can share costs, information, and resources, ensuring we continue to provide an efficient and effective service to the communities of Derbyshire.
"Long Eaton Station is one of seven locations that we share with Derbyshire police and eight that we share with EMAS as we continue to Make Derbyshire Safer Together."
Alongside capital projects such as the joint headquarters building and joint training centre, Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue currently share premises in six other locations.
