LATEST: 21/04 1307: A man was detained in the early hours of Sunday morning after a multi-vehicle and emergency service response was implemented to attend the scene at a bungalow in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, on Saturday evening (20th April) at around 7:40pm, after officers had attended to carry out a warrant under Section 135 of the Mental Health Act.

Local reports suggested that as many as ten police cars were seen travelling at speed along Stanton Road whilst six were seen at high speed in Church Street.  It had been suggested locally that there had been at least one stabbing, and that at least one Police officer had been a victim of the incident in the Dovedale Circle area which is understood to have been taped off as a result.

The website FlightRadar24 shows that UKP154 from the National Police Air Service had been circling overhead in the area for some time, although it is understood that this aeroplane was latterly replaced by a helicopter.

Police later countered earlier local suggestions by confirming that no officers or members of the public were being held hostage.  Earlier, it had also been reported locally that as many as 16 police vehicles, armed police and ambulance were deployed to the scene.

At 23:14 on Saturday evening, Derbyshire Police released the following statement: There is currently a large police presence in Ilkeston this evening (Saturday 20th April) following an incident at a property on Hartington Place, due to concerns for the safety of a man.

We will remain in the area as a precaution for the safety of the public.

A police officer was taken to hospital earlier this evening for treatment for an injury which is not life threatening.

We will provide further updates when we are able to.

A further statement released by Police on Sunday morning confirmed that the officer treated in hospital was injured whilst trying to execute the warrant, but has since been discharged. Local reports suggest that they limped away from the scene having sustained their injury.

A Police statement added that due to risks posed by a man involved, support has been received from specialist police units, force negotiators and the National Police Air Service but there was clarity that no other members of the public have been involved in the incident.

The man involved in the incident was the only person inside the address attended by Police. He was safely detained at around 4:15am, arrested in connection with the incident and taken into Police custody where he remains.

A scene still remains at the property to allow for enquiries and forensic examinations to continue.
