A new subscription service for residents wanting to continue getting their garden waste collected has seen thanks go out from Erewash Borough Council to all those who have been signing up.

The town hall battled to keep emptying householders’ brown bins for free but had to copy other cash-strapped councils by bringing in an annual fee, although this is understood to be below the rate set by many other authorities in the region and country.

A special early-bird offer cuts the price of the service to just £20 – a saving of more than a third off the standard £32 fee.

There is still time to get the online deal, which will end on Sunday 14th April. The council said all those continuing to get their green waste collected are helping to do their bit for the environment because the material is sent for composting.

Subscribers who paid before April should have by now received bin stickers. Anyone who signed up more than 15 days ago is urged to contact the council if they have no sticker. Full details on the garden waste scheme are on the borough council’s website: Garden waste FAQS (erewash.gov.uk)
