AdvoCATS volunteers are dedicated to keeping people and pets together.

A pet charity based in Long Eaton, is seeking volunteers.

AdvoCATSeastmids is a non-profit, voluntary organisation that provides free practical support and advice to cat owners and landlords where there are issues with keeping pets in rented properties. This is a huge problem for tens of thousands of tenants, with demand for pet friendly rentals increasing by 120% since summer 2020, with only 7% of rented properties being advertised as allowing pets.

The charity is looking for people who love animals to act as caseworkers for a few hours a week.  The work entails dealing with pet owners, face to face, via telephone and email, to collate information demonstrating responsible pet ownership, such as vet references, pet assessments, tenant checks, etc.  This is then presented to landlords/lettings agencies, enabling them to make an informed decision about allowing a pet in their property.

Caseworkers will be required to have good communications skills and be over 18. A DBS check will be required (paid for by AdvoCATS).

AdvoCATS is also looking for caring individuals to join a team of like-minded volunteers, providing information about the organisation to the public at Information Days for a few hours from time to time.  These volunteers need to be outgoing and over 16.

Established in 2018, AdvoCATS is run by people with a solid background in cat rescue and animal welfare. The charity is currently campaigning for more tenants to be allowed to keep pets in their rental properties (www.politicshome.com/).

Anyone wanting to become a volunteer should call 07762 726197 or email advocatsem @ gmail.com.  Find out more about the organisation at www.advocatseastmids.org.uk
